In the dream of the man who dreamed, the dreamed woke up

“In the dream of the man who dreamed, the dreamed woke up” is the first exhibition held by the students of the Master’s second-year in Curatorial Studies at the College of Arts, University of Coimbra, to expand their dialogue and hold different places of national reference in the contemporary art.

From January 28 to March 27, 2022, the exhibition will be on display at the Millennium bcp Gallery, located at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, gathering works from nine artists, in an unprecedented collaboration with the UmbigoLAB platform and incorporating Coimbra’s Círculo de Artes Plásticas archive.

“In the dream of the man who dreamed, the dreamed woke up” reflects on concepts that we have built based on history from the Paleolithic to the present day, challenging the viewer to understand the constant contradictions of humanity and seeking to create a surprising conflict by rethinking current concepts such as: sign and symbol, sleep and wakefulness, belief and tautology, reality and fiction, radiant and melancholy, linear and circular narratives.
