The Association Geopark Estrela is an entity designed to conserve, promote and value the cultural and natural heritage of the Serra da Estrela region, focusing on geological heritage, fostering scientific research, tourism and sustainable development of the territory. The application of Serra da Estrela to the UNESCO World Geopark, Scientific, was submitted in November 2017 with the support of the Millennium bcp Foundation. This application proposes a strategy of cooperation between 9 municipalities for the conservation of the park and development of activities in a sustainable way.
