The initiative emerges in 2009 when Castelo d’If identified a need to diversify the artistic environment of the city of Lisbon and to expand opportunities for the internationalization of Portuguese artists.
The event consists in offering the public, during a weekend a year, workshops of several artists, thus allowing all the people who wish so, to access the ateliers of the artists, to personally enjoy their work and to have a better access to their themes, techniques and creative processes. It is a temporary meeting between artists and visitors, and also a unique opportunity to open up new dialogues, knowledge, and sharing between contemporary art creators and audiences.
On the occasion of the 8th edition of the AAA, in 2017 the “Landscape” exhibition was held, commemorating the 7 previous editions of the Artists’ Ateliers, which took place at the National Fine Arts Society between April 20 and May 6 and brought together several works by participating artists.
